Fantasy world

The UK Daily Mail reports on Brave New World’s progress in American higher education, where tomorrow’s workforce is being trained:

Multiple professors at Washington State University have explicitly told students their grades will suffer if they use terms such as “illegal alien,” “male,” and “female,” or if they fail to “defer” to non-white students.

According to the syllabus for Selena Lester Breikss’ “Women & Popular Culture” class, students risk a failing grade if they use any common descriptors that Breikss considers “oppressive and hateful language.”

I commented on this truth derangement in the service of fantasy world building last month. Liberals ban words because their objective meanings point to truths that are too restrictive on “freedom” and contradict the no-judgment panacea of the modern world. If you can’t redefine words, like “marriage,” you ban them, like “man” and “woman.” Disciples of lies quixotically turn everything upside down to right the wrongs they perceive were caused by the natural order.

The important thing to remember is this orthodoxy is not being crammed down our throats by jackbooted bureaucrats 1984-style. It’s willingly bought into by the gatekeepers of civil society: the professors, the HR departments, the media, the powers. The threat of unemployment, of taking away your ability to feed your children, is an effective motivator. You don’t want to jeopardize your career, family, and retirement, do you?

The mind, deluded by envy and pride, can be a more restrictive prison than the police state, because it doesn’t appreciate the limits it chooses.
